Christmas Outfits for Children - Applique

A pleasant alternative to the world of smocking is applique. The advantage of applique is that many times you get two holidays for one, simply by turning the outfit inside out or attaching a piece of applique relating to the holiday. Since we are headed toward the Christmas Season, here are some examples:

Keeping the little one toasty when sometimes even the inside of the house can be a bit chilly is the Funtasia Too Santa Applique Sweater.  It features the jolly old elf with his bag of toys.  100% cotton and 100% made in the U.S.A.

The Funtasia Too Santa Christmas Reversible Dress has more than a few tricks in the bag.  For starters, the back of Santa is on the back of the dress!  Then, once Christmas rolls by and it's time for Valentine's Day, turn the dress inside out and presto-chango you have a Valentine's dress with hearts!

Also from Funtasia Too - a Boys Santa Tab Overall. In this case the Santa icon is attached with buttons. When Christmas time is over, just pull it off and replace it with the motor car, good for all year 'round.

Next on the list is a Santa's Sleigh Reversible Longall. This is designed to turn inside out and voila! a new design, also a car. Funtasia Too is made in America, by the way. There is a corresponding girls outfit, called the Santa's Sleigh Reversible Popover, perfect for ages 12-24 months. For the girls the reversible image is one of three hearts, perfect for Valentine's Day. This is what is pictured below on the right.

A classic icon of the Christmas Season is, of course, the Snowman. Who among us wouldn't 'fess up to shedding a tear when Ol' Frosty melted at the end of "Frosty the Snowman", at least the first time we saw it? The snowman on this Florence Eiseman Red Velvet Boys Longall is set in the center of embroidered snowflakes. It comes complete with a white turtleneck with sleeves handy for wiping away that stray tear or two.

Similar but slightly different is the Florence Eiseman Christmas Bear on Parade Velvet Longall.  Some kids have a thing for Teddy Bears, and most of the time it's wise to give them what you know they'll like in order to get them to wear it often.

If a plain boys red velvet overall is more your speed, Carriage Boutique has one complete with white shirt, and it complements the girls version. Perfect ifyou are trying to match them up for photo ops.
