Vive la Fete in the Springtime (Part One)
Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 03:17PM As crazy as it sounds, springtime will be here before you know it. Will you be among those caught flat-footed without the right outfit for your little one(s)? As readers of this blog know, what we're talking about is smocked children's clothing, and with the change in season comes the change in design... even if someone might have the idea that it is always the time for a certain tank-engine that begins with a "T". Maybe so, but branch out a bit, laddie! To start this effort, I present a few choices. More to follow...

Dinosaurs never fail to capture the imagination of kids. We all know of the (ugh) large nauseating purple one, or maybe even (going way back) the super-cool ones filmed with ancient television techniques in "The Land of the Lost". Polar-opposite of that idea is the smocked john john from Vive la Fete. Featuring a pair of brontosauri, this aqua-blue outfit does not contain even a hint of purple or stop-action filming. Puh-lease!!

Icons and emblems on smocked clothing are great and all, but there is a lot to be said for thebeauty of elegant design. Take this pink and green polka-dot dress from Vive la Fete, sleeveless with smocking on the sides. The dress panel connects the neck and shoulder parts with the body of the dress. The dots seem to fall down like a spring shower on to the solid green hem, which could be the newly green grass after the long cold winter. Underneath the smocking itselfare the new spring flowers burstingfrom the ground. Well done!

Speaking of spring showers, what could be better than stomping puddles into submission with a pair of rain boots? Pluie Pluie makes them for girls and boys. For the girls we have polka dots on white. For others more vehicularly-inclined (boys or girls) we find trucks and all manner of construction vehicles, naturally. Take your pick! To go to Part Two, click here.
