Smocked Spring Outfits (Part Two)

After hearing about minus 40 degrees temperatures in North Dakota and enjoying 70 degree temps in San Francisco, I'm starting to think a spontaneous collision of them both would give us Spring.

It rarely gets that hot here (SF) in summer. Hint for visitors: Bring a thick sweater if you visit at that time. Tourists are easy to spot - they are the ones wearing the "San Francisco" sweaters, since they came to California expecting sun and heat and didn't know to pack for the chill and had to buy some warmth. Heat exists elsewhere in the state, but here it can be freezing. Friends from sweltering states actually love it in July and August because it seems the whole city is air-conditioned outside and they can cool down. But I digress...

Of these first two pictures, guess which location is North Dakotaand which is SF?

Having the right Spring smocked outfit on hand here is then a matter of being prepared early, because the season can appear (and disappear) any time from February to June. As promised from last week, below are three sets to see to help you in that preparation.

Duckies rule the world in springtime. At that time, no one can challenge them for cuteness or softness. Try and think of something that could take them out... what could that be? I thought so, nothing. Anavini has a boys duckie shortall with three to four quackers in a row. The outfit comes with a nice short-sleeve shirt with narrow blue trim. On sale 20% off at Maison de Belles Chosesfor $53, down from $69.

Easter this year is April 12th. Getting ready for Easter is now. For girls, Vive la Fete has a blue and white checked sleeveless dress with a smocked scene featuring some of the animals (duck, elephant, and giraffe) bound for Noah's Ark, and then the Ark center stage. For the boys there is a matching shortall. The edges are all covered with red ric rac.

Rounding out this weeks bunch is a girls short set with watercolor flowers, sleeveless, and a smocked band by Vive La Fete. If spring comes early where you live and the world heats up, this outfit will work out quite nicely. It is unlike so much of the other smocked outfits: The material is a print and the smocking is a design, not an emblem. If you are a smocking aficionado, you will likely appreciate the balance between the two. To go to Part One, click here.
