Fabkins - Clean and Green                                                               September 25, 2008

What was old is new again and green!  Encouraging young kids to keep their hands and faces tidy isn't easy, especially when it can be more fun to wipe the grime on a sleeve or a tablecloth... for the kid that is.  Fortunately Fabkins has brought back the idea of a cloth napkin, but added kid-attractive color and fun designs.  And how better to throw it into the wash than on a landfill!

The best part of this product is the attraction the kid has for the napkin which is seemingly designed just for them.  This certainly encourages use.  Our 1 1/2 year old daughter immediately grasped that these were "hers", and also what they were for.   We had the "African Safari" animal design and the Giraffe quickly became her favorite.  If she was in a different mood the lion or zebra was the one to have.  Daddy, isn't that obvious?  I wanted to use my own pictures but the napkins are at any one time in various stages of cleanliness, so I had to look elsewhere.

Fabkins come in six themes, five napkins per pack and different colors are available.  Themes are Sports Fan, Ballerina, African Safari, Garden Friends, Fruit Salad, and Beach Bound.  They can be purchased directly from the website for $22.95.

Just how green is this?  Apparently if everyone gave up one paper napkin per day we could keep one billion pounds of paper from going to landfills per year.  That's incredible!  What will they bring back next... pocket hankies?
