Carriage Boutique - Smocked Christmas Clothes for Boys

Dressing up like Santa Claus is one of those things... I do. In my childhood every Christmas a family friend named Herbert would gear up like the Jolly Old Elf, hop on his BMW Motorcycle with a bag full of goodies and visit all his friends and their kids. As a teenager, Herbert escaped from East Germany across the yet-to-be militarized border with the West and made his way over to the U.S. I think he was glad to come to a place where he was free from worry about the State spying on his life, to grow a drapery business, to take river-rafting trips, and even to get a little wacky one time a year with the Santa suit. He had an amazing exhuberance for life that I'll never forget. When I put the red and white on, it is in homage to him.

If I'm able to dress up like Old Saint Nick, I would like to believe that small children near to me can also get into the spirit. They don't have to go completely elf on me, looking like Hermie the aspiring Dentist of  "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,"

but how about sprucing yourself up, my little one, with some...

smocked Christmas-themed clothing?

Anavini has a great Girls Smocked Santa Claus Bishop Dress unlike anything I've seen before.  Tiny green polka dots make up the dress material, with red trim along the cuffs.  Three Santa Clauses ring the collar.  The older girls dress has a darker green collar and the jolly ones are across the front. All very nice.

I've seen some reds in Christmas clothes, but nothing comes close to the intensity of the Royal Child Red Christmas Bishop Dress.  The collar is ringed by hanging garlands of delicate white flowers.  Another stand-out this Christmas to be sure.

The Sled and Reindeer Smocked Longall by Carriage Boutique is the perfect boys partner of the girls dress and I might add, a great idea for a twin oriented Christmas photo card effort. It's got the sled chockablock full of toys (I always wanted to use "chockablock" in a sentence, sorry) on the left, two reindeer in the middle, and Santa himself at the end, presumably getting the reindeer fired up for their next house. It is a wonderful forest green.

Anavini has a great-looking red shortall with four Christmas Trees embroidered on the front. While technically not Carriage Boutique, it is definitely in the same class. Sometimes people have a theme in mind or a preference for certain icons, and one must try and pull it all together, right?

For something with a little more to cover the legs, consider the  green "Tannenbaumer" from Royal Child Holiday, the Boys Christmas Tree Smocked Longall.  The smocking has three Christmas Trees and the whole longall is made with green gingham.  Buttons fasten the top.  There is a cute matching girls dress great for Christmas card pictures.

Finally, there's the Remember Nguyen Boys Santa and Reindeer Longall.  No big surprise, the smocking shows Santa and his Reindeer on their way to deliver some presents.  The smocking is crafted in Vietnam in a way that I think would make Herbert proud:  The women are given scholarships to learn the craft of smocking in order to have a skill to be able to lift themselves out of the poverty cycle.

So here's to you, Herbert! I know if you were still here you would be getting ready to fire up the motorcycle and gather the goodies for your rounds. We miss you.
