First Comes love, then comes Marriage, then a little girl in Carriage Boutique
Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 05:52PM My apologies. I could not resist the cheesy title. However, that takes nothing away from the springtime smocked dress offerings from Carriage Boutique, despite the dubious association with my tagline.
The impending birth of our boy had me thinking about the differences between boys and girls. More musings on that after the dresses. Actually, it all fits together: Springtime as the time of birth (for most of nature), the baby carriage (boutique), and pretty dresses for little girls. Maybe the title works better than I thought.
Down the runway first (since it's fashion week somewhere) is the Carriage Boutique Classic Smocked Dress with Flowers and Vines. Under the vines is a pink embroidered ribbon. The color is a very subtle thin horizontal pink and white line giving it a pastel pink appearance. Very elegant!

Next is an attractive sleeveless sun dress, the Carriage BoutiquePink and Green SmockedDress. The top front half is fully smocked. Festooned by two cloth ribbons at the shoulder, on the bottom there is a criss-cross stitch and below that - more tiny flowers and vines! The complete dress material is pink seer-sucker (with a grid as opposed to a line pattern.) Stunning!

Finally, a tasty treat in the form of the Carriage Boutique Cherry Smocked Dress. It is a red and white striped seersucker with the smocked middle sporting the triple pair of cherries. A totally fun dress for the sunshine.

A difference between boys and girls: One theory from the Dad-of-a-son-to-be
With the impending birth of our son I started to think about how each flavor of kid would show their, er, typical differences. One example hit me in the face about four weeks before the big day. We had some friends over with two boys, 3 1/2 and 9 months. The smaller one contentedly ate anything you put in front of his mouth. The bigger one raced around the house, stress-testing furniture, floors, various objects etc.
When they left, I put our daughter to bed and made my way downstairs. Immediately I heard her over the monitor, "Daddy, I want some water, please!" Not bad, I liked the politeness. So I put some water in the yellow bottle and made my way up the stairs and down the hall. "Here you go, darling." Wait for the response... "I want it in the pink bottle." Next came what must have been a dumbfounded look from Dad. "Uh, OK." I could see there was no discussion or persuasion that was destined to work. So I trudged on down the hall, down the stairs to the kitchen and put the water which was in the yellow bottle into the pink bottle. Back up the stairs, down the hall and into her room. "Thank you, Daddy", she smiled up at me and took the bottle. After I closed the door and made my way back, it hit me: If a boy wanted water, you could put it into an old shoe and hand it to them. They would drink it and think, "Hey, water from a shoe! Cool!" Slurp slurp. This theory was confirmed by our dinner guests later on. In fact, they said they have to warn their son NOT to drink the rainwater that has collected in an old plastic cup that has been in the back yard over the spring. So now we come to the theory part: Boys are high energy, girls are high maintenance. To be sure, our daughter seems to be very high-energy, but then I don't have anyone to compare her to that I live with. I'm sure there are exceptions, of course, but this is my general working theory. We'll see. So far the baby is doing the typical newborn sleep, eat, and cry occasionally. Stay tuned...
